In June 2011 the Blue Flag was awarded to Enniscrone Beach by An Taisce. This is an international award that represents water quality, cleanliness, safety and environmental protection. Furthermore the beach has also received the Green Beach award in recognition of the excellent water quality and environmental management.
The long shallow beach is the perfect place for a leisurely dip or energetic swim. A long section of the beach is patrolled by lifeguards, and is clearly marked with red/yellow flags.
Enniscrone's safe shallow beach is idyllic for novice or intermediate surfers to practice their craft. The reef break to the right of the pier is more challenging for the experienced surfer. Two surf schools on the beach provide all the equipment and training required to try out this fantastic sport. Stand Up Paddle surfing is also growing a fan base in Enniscrone and this equipment is now available for hire from North West Surf School on Enniscrone beach.
