The Annual Ballina Salmon Festival founded over 50 years ago is one of the most popular festivals in Ireland, founded 50 years ago. The festival which takes place in Ballina, Co Mayo from Wednesday the 13th July to Sunday the 17th July is a family orientated, action-packed festival of entertainment, fun, arts, music and culture.
With numerous events covering a wide range of areas and activities for young and old alike. The events are very different but all very enjoyable. There is the Teddy Bears Picnic which is favourite for the whole family and takes place in the town park. Then there is Heritage Day, a day which allows you travel back in time where the main streets are lined with stalls displaying traditional Irish arts and crafts. For those who are more energetic, there is the ever popular 'It's a Knock Out' a team based obstacle course race.
To close the festival there is large street party with Mardi gras and a spectacular display of fireworks over the famous River Moy. The fireworks are the largest display in the West.
